Read Together Daniel 6 (take turns reading by sections below)

Brief Background: As part of Judah’s exile to Babylon at a young age, Daniel rose to the office of prime minister. Despite intense political, culture, pagan pressure, he lived a model life of integrity and obedience to Yahweh, The One True God. Because of Daniel’s faithfulness, God blessed him with wisdom and the ability to interpret dreams and provide symbolic prophecies about the future.

Discuss Together Daniel 6:1-9
  • What stirs up the jealousy and envy of the administrators and satraps? How would they describe Daniel?

  • Have you ever found that when you begin to excel, other people look for ways to hold you back and tear you down? How should you deal with those who would cheer at your downfall and even try to hasten it?

  • Why did the king issue his decree? What did that tell us about his consistency and character of his example of faith?

Discuss Together Daniel 6:10-18
  • How would you describe Daniel’s response to the edict? Was it right to disobey the law? If so, how do you balance Romans 13:1?

  • What do you find significant in which v10 that he prayed daily, “just as he had done before?” What does that speak of Daniel’s consistency of his faith?

  • Are there times where a better strategy might be to close the windows, draw the curtains, and pray to God in secret or model it to others? How have you struggled to find balance to this?

  • What was the response of the King hearing Daniel disobey the decree? How did this show his relationship with Daniel, especially after he gave the order?

  • When have you had to do the right thing over the expense of others you care about?

Discuss Together Daniel 6:19-28
  • We know God saved Daniel, but why? Was there anything about him and what he did that was connected to his rescuing?

  • In your own life, have you ever experienced God in the midst of a “lion’s den” (of skeptics, critics, persecutors, etc.)?

  • As the Angel was with Daniel, how has Jesus been with your den of challenges?

  • What “lions’ den’s” are you facing currently and could use prayer for?
