Theme: Caught in a Trap

Reflect Together  How did you relate to last Sunday’s Message? What impacted you the most?

Read Together John 8:1-11
  • If you were the woman, how would you have felt towards these religious leaders who caught you and brought you to Jesus?

  • If these encounters with Jesus happened in today’s culture, how would they be portrayed? What stones are being thrown at who?

  • How were the religious leaders trying to trap Jesus? Where is the moral dilemma in this situation? What was their motive?

  • What do you think Jesus was writing on the ground?

  • Why did the religious leaders leave? What is it that Jesus said/wrote?

  • Why did Jesus not condemn the woman? What does that speak of Jesus filled with both grace and truth? (John 1:14)

  • What did Jesus mean by “Go and leave your life of sin?” How is that freeing but challenging for you?

  • Scripture doesn’t say this, but what would you speculate her response was after Jesus forgave her?

  • What does it take to leave a life of sin and become a true disciple of Jesus?

  • How have you held emotional baggage that keeps you from experiencing both forgiveness and greater freedom? Is there anything you are holding on to that you want to let go of or need prayer for?
