Look Closer, Part 14: Unless a Seed Dies…

September 5, 2021 / Wendy Powell, Community Outreach Pastor / John 12:24-26

Spiritual growth…

Is not about or God’s love

Is in part about what you and also about who you are

Isn’t something we do for God; it’s something

Won’t just happen to us; there’s a part

John 12:24-26

24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

Jesus gives us four choices to make:

  1. Will you ?
  2. Will you your life to it?
  3. Will you me?
  4. Will you me?

CTK’s Spiritual Health Self-Assessment

A framework for understanding the spiritual journey toward maturity
Helps you identify where you are and paints a clearer picture of what’s ahead

The self-assessment covers five areas of maturity that are interconnected, not sequential

  • Authenticity
  • Biblical Application
  • Devotion
  • Generosity & Stewardship
  • Integration

Each spiritual stage has a posture:

  • Sit (Dependence)
  • Crawl (Imitation)
  • Walk (Ownership)
  • Run (Investment)

3 Steps to Catalyze Your Spiritual Development   grow.ctk.church

  1. Take the self-assessment
  2. Share your results with another Christian you trust
  3. Ask God what step he is inviting you to take with him this season
    • Authenticity: prayerfully choose someone to share your God story with
    • Biblical Application: pick a reading plan on the YouVersion Bible app and stick with it through Christmas
    • Devotion: start a new spiritual practice from the resources found at grow.ctk.church
    • Generosity & Stewardship: invest in the next generation of our church by volunteering in Children’s or Student Ministry
    • Integration: identify one area in your life where God is missing and pray daily asking him to be a part of it

  3. Did anything about the types of questions asked surprise you?
  4. Did you find it easy to score yourself on most questions or were some harder to answer? Any specific questions that caused you to really think?
  5. What are you learning about yourself after reviewing the results?
  6. How can we pray for you right now and throughout the week?
