Theme: The Fall Effects

Share Together:

What is something that you find hard to resist? (e.g. favorite food, activity, etc.)

Reflect Together:

What impacted you the most from last week’s reading What was learned from last Sunday’s gathering? Specifically, what does it mean that our decisions determine our destination?

Read Together:

Genesis 3:1-24 (divide reading between group members)

Discuss Together:
  • Why does the serpent (Satan) mix the truth in with his lies? How does Eve refute the serpent’s attempts to sway her, and how does she add to God’s command by not giving in? (See Genesis 2:16-17)
  • In what way does the serpent erode the nature of God that brings doubt of God’s goodness to Eve? How is this an effective tactic of Satan to tempt us as well?
  • In what ways are Adam and Eve tempted based on the description in 3:6? Why did they respond the way they did in verse 7? What does that tell you about our response to when we sin?
  • What is the significance of God walking in the garden in relationship to man and, most importantly, his question to them?
  • What is Adam and Eve’s response to God confronting them? How are shame and blame similar responses to sin in our culture and personally today?
  • What is your view of the severity of God’s punishment of mankind? How does the curse continue into the next generation with Cain and Abel in chapter 4, and where can its effects be felt today?
  • What is God’s provision in verse 21 that foreshadows Jesus’ ultimate covering of our sin in the future? How does this impact you in that we still live in a fallen world?
Pray Together:

Share how any progress God has answered prayer as well as requests.

Next Week’s Reminder:

In preparation for next week’s gathering and Group, remember to read Genesis 3-4 and write your responses in your growth guide.
