Sent, Part 4: The Power of Being Sent

“Sent one” is the English translation
of the Hebrew word shaliach (שָׁלִיחַ)
which means or .

Ekklessia = of sent ones

In the Gospel of John alone, the word sent occurs 55 times

The Mission and Heart of Jesus

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”  Luke 4:18–19

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16–17

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21

“As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world… pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me, and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:18–21

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

God never sends us to a place.

God only sends his children to places.

1. It’s finally spring! What excites you the most about this season?
2. Has God ever sent someone to you with a message? Were you skeptical about the content? How did you receive it?
3. Read Luke 4:18-19 out loud. What part of Jesus’ mission resonates with your spirit? What are you going to do with that prompt?
4. When God prompts you to do something, what are the most common obstacles or excuses that get in the way? How can you become more obedient to his voice?
5. Where do you believe God is sending you right now?
6. How can we pray for you right now and throughout the week?
