Now is the Time, Part 1: Birth | Death

May 8, 2022 / Brian Behrends, Creative Pastor / Ecclesiastes 3:2

“Our greatest fear should not be of failure…
but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.”
– Francis Chan

Ecclesiastes 1:2-3
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” “
       says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
       Everything is meaningless.”
What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the sun:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

John 12:23–27
23 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
27 “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came…’”

  3. If life happens in seasons, how would you describe the season that you’re in right now?
  4. What’s your 100-year plan? What do you want your legacy to be? What do you want people to say about you when you’re gone?
  5. What’s a step you can take this week that would put you on that path?
  6. How can we pray for you right now and throughout the week?
